MISSION STATEMENT
The Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon Political Action Committee (”APANO PAC”) was established as the nonpartisan political arm of the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (”APANO“). The mission of the APANO PAC is to impact policy on the issues of concern to all Asian Pacific Islanders (”APIs”) in Oregon, regardless of their ethnic background or national origin. The methods by which the APANO PAC will achieve its mission include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Endorsing and supporting candidates, regardless of their political affiliation, who are sincerely committed to advancing the rights of and achieving equality for all APIs;
2. Opposing candidates whose politics, actions and interests are adverse to the political and societal well being of APIs;
3. Educating and mobilizing the API community to become active participants in participatory democratic governance;
4. Developing, cultivating and mentoring API candidates who (1) recognize that the API community’s interests are synonymous to their own [or] (2) recognize their significance as representatives of not only their immediate constituency, but of the entire API community;
5. Educating candidates, lawmakers, politicians, the media, and the public about the needs, concerns, and interests of APIs, and how local, state and federal governmental actions affect the API community;
6. Supporting legislation and/or ballot measures that support and advance the mission of APANO PAC and its constituents; and
7. Opposing legislation and/or ballot measures that are antithetical to the mission of APANO PAC and its constituents; and
8. Working collaboratively with other communities on issues of mutual interest.
